Final Fantasy & Star Wars May Now Be Interconnected Thanks to Blitzball
The author of the Star Wars: Brotherhood novel has revealed that the book contains a reference to Blitzball, the underwater sport played in the world of Spira from Final Fantasy X. The Final Fantasy series has many Star Wars references and this is an opportunity for the galaxy that's far, far away to return the favor.
The game of Blitzball is a sport with a professional league that is played in the world of Spira. The game is played underwater, as the residents of Spira are able to hold their breath for extended periods of time. Blitzball is like a mixture between water polo and American football, as the goal is to get the Blitzball into the other team's goal, and tackling the opponents is on the cards. There is an entire Blitzball minigame in FF10, which is necessary to play to unlock some of the high-level gear for one of the characters in the game. The player can take breaks to play Blitzball at save points throughout the game, offering a respite from saving the world.

Blitzball is an important part of FF10 and it's now part of Star Wars.
