FIFA is the UK’s Christmas No. 1 for the tenth year.
That’s according to Gfk data published by GI.biz, which shows that the EA Sports title enjoyed a 67% increase in physical sales compared to the previous week, keeping Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in second place.
Although it’s possible FIFA benefited from increased interest around the World Cup, the sports game has now been Christmas No. 1 ten times, ahead of Call of Duty’s nine.
As noted by GI, only rarely have other franchises managed to break the trend. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla managed it in 2020 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Prior to that, Call of Duty was top for four consecutive years.
Elsewhere in the chart, last week’s No.1, God of War: Ragnarok, slipped to third place after a 23% sales decline, and there’s one new entry in the form of Square Enix‘s Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7.
