Fast & Furious 10's search for a new director following Justin Lin's recent departure is reportedly costing up to $1 million per day. The upcoming film will serve as the beginning of the end of the Fast & Furious franchise which has so far spanned nine main films and one spinoff film. At over $6 billion, the hi-octane car-centric franchise is one of the highest grossing in Hollywood history. Fast X was to be filmed back-to-back with Fast & Furious 11 which will mark the end of Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) story which began with The Fast & The Furious in 2001.
Lin was slated to return to the franchise to direct the final two films of the series. The director helmed five of the Fast & Furious films starting with The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift. He directed the following three films before taking a break to direct Star Trek Beyond. He later returned to the series for the latest entry Fast 9, which saw the Toretto crew soar to new heights. It was recently announced that Lin has stepped down as director on Fast X due to creative differences with no other filmmakers set to take his place. This decision has left Universal Pictures scrambling to find a replacement.

Per Variety, Universal's search for a new director for Fast X following Lin's departure is reportedly costing the studio $600,000 to $1 million per day. Currently, the production's second unit is continuing to shoot in the U.K. while the first unit waits for the replacement director. In doing so, the studio is spending thousands of dollars a day just to keep the cast and crew on set.
