The budget for Fast & Furious 10 has reportedly ballooned to $300 million due largely to cast salaries. Officially titled Fast X, the movie is the latest entry in The Fast & The Furious franchise, which kicked off 21 years ago as a modestly-budgeted action yarn starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Since then, the sequels continued to grow, becoming one of the most lucrative franchises of all time (and the biggest for Universal Pictures). It has earned more than $6.6 billion at the worldwide box office to date.
Last year saw the release of the ninth entry in the series, F9, which opened in the midst of the global pandemic and earned the lowest in box office receipts since 2011's Fast Five, raking in $726 million globally. Compared to the previous entry, The Fate of the Furious, which pulled in $1.2 billion,F9 was a disappointment, even considering the pandemic release challenge. Franchise director Justin Lin had returned to direct F9 after taking a hiatus following 2013'sFast & Furious 6 (his fourth outing with the series at the time). The director went directly into Fast X and was set to helm the eleventh film as well, but recently bowed out due to creative differences. The gig is now going to The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier.
