Ubisoft has announced a free Far Cry 6 weekend.
From March 24-27, the open-world game will be available to play for free on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC.
Players keen to participate can pre-load the game today from 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 7pm GMT.
The game is playable solo or in co-op, and the promotion includes access to all free DLC released to date.
Any progress made will transfer to the full game, which is being discounted on all platforms, should players choose to purchase it.
The free weekend coincides with the release of a new Stranger Things crossover mission on March 24.
Titled The Vanishing, it promises to deliver a “stealth-horror-survival gameplay experience… set in a twisted version of Yara inspired by the Upside-Down, where Dani discovers that Yarans are disappearing and no one is safe”.
The latest entry in the long-running series was released last October and some of its more negative reviews, including VGC’s 2/5-star verdict, criticised the title for sticking too closely to a tried and tested formula.
Our critic wrote: “If you’re interested in another Far Cry game that does the Far Cry stuff the way it’s been doing it for 10 years, you’ll probably have a good time, but if you’ve already hit your limit with this kind of game, Far Cry 6 is the ne plus ultra of why open-world game design is so badly in need of a revolution.”
Far Cry 7 could shake-up the series with a greater focus on online play, it has been claimed.
