Disney's Haunted Mansion ride is getting another adaptation that boasts a star-studded cast — here is everything we know about it. The 2003 adaptation, starring Eddie Murphy, was panned by critics for its lack of imagination and underwhelming humor. While it is yet to be seen whether the new Haunted Mansion will truly tread a different path from its predecessor, the film has been showing some positive developments lately.
The Haunted Mansion ride was first conceptualized as a walkthrough by Walt Disney. Soon after, in 1969, it was opened in California's Disneyland as a frightening mansion in Lousiana that takes visitors on a journey through a series of simulated terrors. Now, the eerie ride attraction is in multiple locations across the globe, which explains why Disney is determined to get its adaptation right.

Theme parks and movies have had a long-standing relationship. In fact, a surprisingly large number of Disney movies are based on theme park rides. As Haunted Mansion was so poorly received the first time around, unlike some of Disney's other ride-based movies, it already evokes intrigue as to how Disney will adapt the Haunted Mansion ride to the big screen for a second time and recreate it in such a way that it rises above the pitfalls of the first adaptation.
Haunted Mansion is scheduled to release in theaters on March 10, 2023. When it comes to its streaming release dates, Disney has made no official announcements yet. However, if it follows the trend of other Disney movies, Haunted Mansion will likely be available on Disney+ a few weeks after its theatrical release.
