Warning! SPOILERS for First Kill season 1.
With a typical cliffhanger ending and several unresolved plot points, Netflix's First Kill season 1 leaves enough room for season 2. Harping on some traditional vampire tropes, First Kill is based on an eponymous short story by novelist V. E. Schwab, who has also co-written all eight episodes of the series. While making several references to genre classics like Romeo and Juliet, the series adopts a unique LGBTQ+ supernatural romance storyline andmakes good use of its complex mythology to effectively set the stage for a potential follow-up.
First Kill season 1 revolves around two teens, Juliette Fairmont (Sarah Catherine Hook) and «Cal» Burns (Imani Lewis), who attend Lancaster Academy. From the very first day of school, they are intrigued by one another, but little do they realize that their families are sworn enemies. While Juliette comes from a family of vampires, Cal is a monster hunter by blood. However, with the onset of their complex feelings for one another, the two find themselves at a crossroads where they must choose between love and familial identity.

Netflix's First Kill season 1establishes that the path to finding love will be replete with ebbs and flows for Juliette and Cal. In addition, it also adds some new characters and plotlines to the mix to ensure that audiences are left longing for more. Considering how First Kill still has a lot to unravel, it is hard not to wonder if it will be renewed by Netflix.
