The new drama series The Dropout is completely packed with songs many viewers will recognize. The soundtrack for the Hulu original series sets the perfect atmosphere. As the story takes place over the course of a decade, some of the songs help viewers know what time period they are in while following the rise and fall of discredited entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, played by Mamma Mia’s Amanda Seyfried.
The Dropout is based on the ABC podcast of the same name. It follows Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes as she takes progressively more drastic steps to ensure the success of her company, despite making hardly any progress on the groundbreaking machine she’s been pitching to investors. The repeated lies and scams are documented as scenes of her journey are intercut with short clips of Holmes's real-life 2017 deposition.
