Instead, while both warring factions are present, Kay's personal story delves more into the criminal underworld of the Outer Rim as it grows and thrives while the Empire is distracted.
Star Wars Outlaws focuses on a grimier, seedier side of the universe with a rich, detailed open world that features both new and legacy characters.
' story follows Kay Vess, a cunning scoundrel and thief from the casino city of Canto Bight on Cantonica, who is on the run with a bounty on her back after angering a dangerous crime lord, Sliro, in her home city. In an attempt to gain her freedom and start a new life, Kay embarks upon a galaxy-spanning mission to attempt one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen.
As shown in the game's story trailer, Kay is relatively new to the larger dealings of the criminal underworld, being thrown out of meetings with major syndicates as a result. It's clear, however, that players have a say in how these interactions unfold, as Kay forms relationships with different factions, either working for or against them as she sets out on her adventure.
Kay's faithful Axolotl companion, Nix, will be at her side throughout, with Kay stating that she's been doing what she's had to do for as long as she can remember to ensure the duo's survival. Ubisoft called Nix and Kay's relationship "" upon the game's initial announcement, reinforcing the strong bond the two will have throughout the game's story. Nix will also be incorporated into ' core gameplay, reaching hidden secrets and hard-to-access areas during missions
