July 2022 will see the arrival of some of the most anticipated movies of the year from different genres, such as the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Russo Brothers’ newest project, Jordan Peele’s latest horror movie, and a different superhero movie from the DC Universe. Although the coronavirus pandemic is far from over, the world is adapting to a new kind of normal, and for that, theaters all over the world are open and working as normal again, while studios are finally releasing all those movies that had to be delayed as well as their latest projects – however, many are still opting for a direct release on streaming platforms, a simultaneous one, or shortening the window between theatrical and streaming release.
June saw the release of some big titles, of which many premiered at the 2022 Cannes Festival, such as the thriller Watcher, David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future, and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, along with Jurassic World Dominion, Pixar’s Lightyear, and Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone. However, unlike previous months, none of these got a simultaneous release on streaming, and so the audience will have to wait 45 days to watch some of them on different platforms, such as Elvis (HBO Max) and The Black Phone (Peacock).
