The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack has added four new Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games to its collection, with some standout titles among the bunch. The new Sega Genesis games also include an infamous title from the Jurassic era of the Internet, when games could become famous for their poor localization. This new group of games might be the best addition to the Sega Genesis section of the Expansion Pack since launch.
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers receive access to a small library of NES and SNES games. The people who pay extra for the Expansion Pack gain access to Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles. For many people, the Nintendo 64 games were the more attractive prospect, due to the demise of the Virtual Console on modern Nintendo systems, especially as the Nintendo 3DS never received N64 game ports (outside of full remasters, like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time). By contrast: Sega has been porting its Sega Genesis games to pretty much every console released since the death of the Dreamcast. This also includes the dedicated Sega Genesis Mini retro console from 2019, as well as the Sega Genesis Classics collection, which is available on PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.

The Expansion Pack recently added the last of its announced Nintendo 64 games, with Pokémon Snap arriving on the service in June. There are still Sega Genesis games arriving on the service and Nintendo/Sega saved a great bunch for July. The next batch of Sega Genesis games for the Expansion Pack was announced in a trailer on the official Nintendo YouTube channel.
