In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time it is possible to permanently miss items due to the design of the game's progression. The game features moments that, once taken by the player, mean there is no going back. There are some items and upgrades that cannot be obtained once certain parts of the game are completed, such as obtaining the Master Sword.
This is a common feature in gaming, where progression means that returning to certain areas can be blocked. This can be different areas of a level or a change in the state of the world map. For example, some of Elden Ring's essential items can be missed and become permanently unobtainable.
