Elden Ring is to receive a Colosseum Update this week, it has been announced.
The new PVP mode, which has been rumoured for some time, will be free to all players when it launches on PC and consoles on December 7.
“The Colosseums of Limgrave, Leyndell and Caelid will open their gates, allowing players to engage in battles such as duels, free-for-alls and team fights,” according to a press release.
A trailer for the Colosseum Update is viewable below.
The expansion will take place in the several colosseums that have been dotted around the Elden Ring map since the game was released.
A Souls modder names Sekiro Dubi even managed to access one of these colosseums earlier in the year, revealing a Site of Grace, the in-game respawn points, further pointing to the location as somewhere that players were, or are planned to be able to explore.
New hair has also been found in the files, however, it’s unclear if this will be available as a cosmetic option for players, or if it’s for use by an NPC in the expansion.
Elden Ring and Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently said he’s trying not to get distracted by the huge success of his latest title, which picked up two awards last Friday.
The Bandai Namco RPG, which has sold over 17 million copies and is the highest-rated new game of the year, received a pair of PlayStation Partner Awards last week, including the Grand Award (for the best-selling game developed in Asia) and the Users’ Choice award.
