A new Elden Ring meme is hot off the presses, this time commenting on FromSoftware's signature online messaging system. Elden Ring has plenty in common with games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, not the least of which is its instantly recognizable multiplayer integration.
While most would likely consider Elden Ring to be a single-player experience first and foremost, the game does feature a somewhat robust multiplayer function. Players can invade the worlds of other players as antagonistic forces or lend their aid as friendly benefactors. Aside from this direct contact, however, is a messaging system. While traversing the open world, players can choose to leave messages for others to discover in various areas. These messages can serve as useful tips for other players at large, pointing them in the right direction or warning them of oncoming danger. Alternatively, they can act as lighthearted pranks or jokes. The process of leaving messages is more straightforward than Elden Ring's PvP process, but it does come with a catch of its own: players cannot simply write whatever they want via keyboard — they have to choose from a predetermined list of words and phrases. This can often lead to the messages being confusing, strange, or humorous.
