The Ancestor Spirit boss is a sad husk you can fight in some sombre blue plains - it's sad enough talking on this decaying critter, but Elden Ring dataminer Zullie the Witch has uncovered something even more morbid. It turns out that they can heal by consuming the smaller peaceful spirit animals dotted about the arena, and there's even a unique animation that sees them being ripped apart.
"During the fight, the Ancestor Spirit will sometimes collapse and warp away, reappearing somewhere else in the arena," Zullie's video stated (thanks, VG247). "Where it warps to isn't fixed but it also isn't exactly random, it targets one of the smaller spirits and moves to its position... It lifts one of the smaller spirits into the air and then bursts out from it."

You see this in action in Zullie's video as one of the beasties contorts and explodes from the inside as its own legs grow into the Ancestor Spirit's - it's not the most pleasant thing to look at, but it's a neat little detail that adds a whole new layer to one of Elden Ring's more obscure bosses.
"This has a secondary effect as well, as the spirit partially changes its moveset based on what animal it selected," Zullie continued. "Each animal grants a different special attack, the deers give an upwards antler thrust, and the boars a ramming charge."
Not only does Zullie's video expand on what we know about the Ancestor Spirit and how they work, but it gives a new tactical advantage. If you pay attention and see what animal they sprout from when they teleport, you'll be able to predict their next attack, be it a charge or a thrust. It doesn't stop there, though - the Ancestor Spirit can also kill these
