EA has been sending an email to players with BioWare Points left in their virtual wallets, informing them that the currency will soon be made a thing of the past. The best news of all is that means DLC for various BioWare games that could previously only be bought using its points is now free of charge. The bad news is that now leaves you with very little to spend your soon-to-be defunct BioWare Points on if you have any left.
The news comes courtesy of the aforementioned email, courtesy of PC Gamer. You can actually check out the email in full via a screenshot below which has been shared on Reddit. “We're reaching out to let you know that starting October 11, 2022, BioWare Points will no longer be available as a form of currency in the Origin store,” EA writes.

“To support you through this change, most DLC (downloadable content) that was previously only purchaseable with BioWare Points are now available free of charge.” That means any and all DLC for Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age: Origins, and Dragon Age 2 is now free. All you need to do is head to the games in your library, select extra content, and there should now be an option to “get it free”.
The whole BioWare Points system was a little shady. Points were needed to buy DLC and could only be bought in packs of 800. However, DLC for the above games didn't cost multiples of 800 which meant needing to buy multiple packs and being left with hundreds of points left over that you then couldn't use or didn't need. As for any BioWare Points you might still have knocking around, EA's email states they can be used to buy Mass Effect 3's multiplayer packs until October 11, 2022.
