While Dying Light 2 features human enemies, you will mainly be dealing with hordes of infected. These zombies are all over the city and become way more active during the night. Besides your typical Biters and Virals, you'll sometimes encounter special types of infected as well.

These special infected were created on January 6, 2025, during the event known as "Black Monday," when tons of chemical bombs fell into the city. The idea was to use the THV-GenMod (a chemical compound that accelerated the decay of the infected DNA and caused them to die) to bomb the city and get rid of the infected once and for all. However, things didn't go according to plan. The bombs killed hundreds of people and mutated the infected into special types. Virals are a fairly common type of infected in the game. They have just recently turned and, because of that, Virals are relatively fast and can climb buildings with ease.
Virals will sometimes perform power attacks where they launch at you, making you fall to the grown; dodging them is the best way to deal with that. You can also just attack them with the different weapons available in the game.
Alongside Virals, Biters are the most common type of infected found in the game. These guys have been infected for a long time, their bodies are rotting, and they move really slow, so handling them it's fairly easy. A couple of quick attacks or kicking them off rooftops will do. The only moment when a Biter is a real threat is when you stumbled upon a group of them.
