Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit cinemas around the world over the weekend. The latest installment in the MCU, and the first on the big screen since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since the latest outing from Dr. Strange follows directly on from the events of the box office busting Spidey movie, the new Marvel movie was expected to make big bucks off the bat, and it has done exactly that.
As first reported by Variety, Multiverse Of Madness has raked in an astounding $450 million during its opening weekend. $185 million in North America and $265 million internationally. That second number is made even more impressive when it's highlighted that the Dr. Strange sequel is not currently screening in cinemas in China and Russia, two major global markets. It has also not arrived in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or Qatar after Disney refused to remove references to new character America Chavez's two moms.

According to figures from Box Office Mojo - plus No Way Home's $601 million debut weekend reported by Deadline - Dr. Strange 2's $450 million makes it the tenth best opening weekend for a movie ever. There are four MCU movies ahead of it. Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, No Way Home, and Captain Marvel which had the benefit of launching between those first two blockbusters. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jurassic World are also among the nine movies that enjoyed better box office hauls during their debut weekends.
