The first trailer for Don't Worry Darling is out now, and if you don't quite understand what's going on, you aren't alone. From director Olivia Wilde (Booksmart), the movie is a mysterious psychological thriller, and the first trailer is certainly eye-catching and leaves us with plenty of questions.
The movie stars Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, and Chris Pine. Pugh and Styles play a married couple in the '50s living in the «idealized» community of Victory, which is an «experimental company town» for the mysterious «Victory Project.»
The husbands in the community work at Victory Project HQ all day while their wives live at home spending time «enjoying the beauty, luxury, and debauchery of their community.» Life is seemingly perfect, with the Victory Project taking care of every issue and paying for everything in exchange for their discretion.
Obviously, this utopia finally falls apart. Pugh's character, Alice, begins to question what, exactly, is happening in Victory. The film is described as a «twisted» psychological thriller, and the trailer definitely leaves us with a lot of questions that the final film hopefully pays off in a satisfying way.
The screenplay for Don't Worry Darling was written by Katie Silberman, based on the story from Carey Van Dyke and Shane Van Dyke (Chernobyl Diaries) and Silberman. Matthew Libatique, who earned Oscar nominations for A Star is Born and Black Swan is the director of photography.
The behind-the-scenes talen also includes the Oscar-nominated Jason Bourne composer John Powell and costume designer Arianne Phillips (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood).
