The early reviews for Dog have arrived, and they almost unanimously praise Channing Tatum's charming performance. Tatum has been out of the spotlight for several years after he took a break from acting on camera. He recently revealed that he needed to take time to recharge after doing four films back to back, which left him exhausted and feeling like his performances were suffering. After his surprise cameo appearance in the Ryan Reynolds comedy Free Guy last summer, the first quarter of 2022 are seeing somewhat of a Tatum renaissance. Besides cameoing in two episodes of the Apple TV+ murder mystery series The Afterparty, Tatum will follow Dog (which comes out February 17), with the adventure film The Lost City on March 25, in which he co-stars with Sandra Bullock and Daniel Radcliffe.
Channing Tatum is spreading his wings the most with Dog, however, considering that he co-directed the film with Reid Carolin, who has produced several projects starring the actor, including Magic Mike, White House Down, and 22 Jump Street. Tatum also stars in the film as an Army veteran who is tasked with transporting an unruly Belgian Malinois across the country to attend her owner's funeral. The film, which was written by Carolin, also features Jane Adams, Kevin Nash, Q'orianka Kilcher, Ethan Suplee, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Bill Burr. Dog is also notable for being part of a new crop of films that was shot entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
