The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is OnePlus's newest budget smartphone for the U.S., and if you want a phone with expandable storage, it could be a good fit. Expandable storage is one of those smartphone features that seems to become increasingly rare with each passing year. It used to be that every phone had expandable storage as a default feature. Today, only a few handsets keep the functionality alive.
Interestingly enough, expandable storage is now more common on budget smartphones than it is on flagship ones. The Galaxy S22, Pixel 6, and iPhone 13 are all designed without any SD card support at all. By comparison, the Galaxy A53 5G, Moto G Power, and Nokia G20 all retain the feature. It's an annoying shift for folks who rely on expandable storage, but that's where the market has found itself.

The $899 OnePlus 10 Pro doesn't have expandable storage, yet the OnePlus Nord N20 5G — which costs hundreds of dollars less — does have expandable storage.
Using the SD card slot on the OnePlus Nord N20 5G is as easy as any other phone. Remove the SIM tray with the included tool that comes in the box, insert a microSD card, slide the tray back in, and that's it. The OnePlus Nord N20 5G supports microSD cards up to 512GB. That's not as impressive as the 1TB cards supported by phones like the Galaxy A53 5G, but any expandable storage support is better than not having it.
