Deus Ex studio wants to return to the series claims rumour – not its next game

It’s said that Eidos-Montréal wishes to make a new Deus Ex, but it’s apparently already busy with an original project.

With Square Enix selling Eidos-Montréal to Embracer Group, many fans became hopeful that the studio will be able to return to certain franchises under the new ownership.

Examples include Legacy Of Kain and Gex, but perhaps the biggest one is the Deus Ex series, which hasn’t seen a new entry since 2016’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it’s claimed that, at the very least, Eidos- Montréal is as eager to return to Deus Ex as much as the fans are.

Not only that, but it wishes to challenge itself and ‘do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn’t,’ but whether that means it wants to make an open world Deus Ex game in the same vein as Cyberpunk 2077 is unknown.

It’s certainly not impossible; Embracer Group has already expressed interest in releasing new games for certain ‘beloved franchises,’ and Deus Ex easily falls within that category.

This claim comes from noted insider Jeff Grubb, who has regularly and reliably shared behind-the-scenes information in the past.

‘They want to get right back into that,’ he said during his most recent Game Mess Mornings episode (from the 16:53 mark). ‘And they want to challenge… like they want to do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn’t and stuff like that. That’s the word going around.

‘We’ll see if that happens. It’s so early. Who knows what that will turn into, but that was probably not even… there was no possibility for that conversation to even begin under the current Square Enix.’

Given Grubb’s comments, you shouldn’t expect an official Deus Ex announcement any time soon.
