Crafting hasn’t been as successful as Bungie had hoped. When weapon crafting was first revealed to eager Destiny 2 fans, Guardians thought it would finally let them craft the perfect weapon, making all others inferior and opening up some much-needed vault space. Players also thought that weapon crafting would allow for greater experimentation, letting Guardians swap between perks to see what version of the weapon they prefer.
None of those expectations were met when weapon crafting arrived in The Witch Queen expansion. Rather than open up vault space, Guardian vaults are now more jam-packed than ever as players are required to use Deepsight Weapons in order to first unlock their blueprints and then extract necessary crafting materials. On top of that, reshaping a weapon requires even more hard-to-acquire materials, which disincentives experimentation.
