Video game franchises that cross over into new genres can be incredibly fun and exciting, as they can help breathe new life into a series and also help to introduce it to new players who may have skipped over previous entries. This is something that Bungie could use to expand the story and lore of Destiny 2.
If Bungie ever decided to create a spin-off Destiny game that crossed over into another genre, it could look at the Super Mario series for inspiration. The Nintendo icon appears in a whole host of different games and genres including Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, and Mario Party.

Twitter user @EntityPsd recently posted a concept for a Destiny 2 fighting game, with ideas for each character's abilities, as well as an animated character selection screen, with the short video showing Osiris set to take on Oryx.
Although this isn't an official project by Bungie, it looks awesome, and it is very interesting to think about what could be if the game was put into production. Many of the most popular characters from Destiny 2 are present in the concept, including Cayde, Luxe Hunter, Osiris, Tempest, Riven, and Wyvern, making this a star-studded roster that would be sure to tick the boxes for any Destiny fan. Each of the characters features their own unique ability, such as Mithrax being able to use a gauntlet to rip holes in the vex network to summon junk, and Tempest who can use arc chains to facilitate heavy combos.
With the characters being able to use weapons and abilities, it would be logical to imagine a Destiny fighting game to be similar to games such as Bandai Namco's SoulCalibur, which sees players face off in a 3D arena while using weapons, with the
