Mordenkainen Presents: Multiverse of Monsters is a new Dungeons & Dragons book that has updated many of the playable races that have appeared in 5e. These changes include making many of the playable races stronger, as well as altering the lore, in order to make it easier to create adventuring characters who belong to one of the monstrous D&D races.
The Player's Handbook features all of the staple races that D&D players have come to expect, including some that took center stage in 4e, like the dragonborn and the tiefling. The monstrous races were detailed in books like Volo's Guide to Monsters, where their lore downplayed the idea of them ever becoming adventurers (or at least the kind that would work with a standard D&D party). The racial features of these monsters also weren't great, such as kobolds having an ability called Grovel, Cower, and Beg, where they distracted their foes by acting in a pathetic manner. Luckily, the kobolds in D&D are now more powerful than before and they don't need to rely on subterfuge to succeed in battle.

Multiverse of Monsters features over thirty revised playable races. These changes include removing all of the set stat bonuses and using the floating bonus system from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything to removing the suggested alignment section, as adventurers are generally unique individuals, who don't live by the same creed as their kin. Some of the changes have involved scrubbing references that tied the races to one setting, in order to make it as easy to use them in any game as possible.
