CD Projekt’s latest earnings report shares new sales statistics for Cyberpunk 2077 and a hint at what’s to come.
While many are unwilling to forget the less than stellar circumstances surrounding Cyberpunk 2077’s launch, both the game and CD Projekt have managed to bounce back over the last year and a half.
In a recent earnings report, the company says that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 18 million copies as of this month. While it was already selling extremely well at launch, in spite of the controversies, the release of the long-awaited PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions no doubt helped.
Aside from being free downloads for existing customers, CD Projekt released a five-hour demo for everyone to try out, although that’s no longer available.
As for what’s next for the game, CD Projekt has yet to release any of its major DLC expansions. Details are still slim, but the company’s vice president and chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz has said that the DLC will include a brand-new storyline.
While he didn’t share anything beyond that, the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account added that the first expansion won’t release until 2023. It’s not clear whether it will include the new storyline Nielubowicz mentioned.
Aside from continuing to support Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt touched on its other projects as well. We already know about its next Witcher game and, while nothing new was revealed, the company says the Witcher series as a whole has sold over 65 million copies.
More than 40 million of those can be attributed to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is meant to be getting a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade too. However, CD Projekt admitted recently that it has had to delay the new versions indefinitely.
