The date has been set for Cuphead’s physical release. After confirming last month that Cuphead will be getting a retail release in the near future, developer Studio MDHR has narrowed that down further. Fans will finally be able to have the game in a non-digital form this December, with a Collector’s Edition boasting a few notable extras slated to follow not long after.
Few indie games of the past few years have left quite as big of a mark as Studio MDHR’s cartoon run-and-gun shooter since its 2017 debut. If anything, Cuphead’s legacy has only become more solidified five years on as more gamers find themselves lured in by its distinct 1930s-esque art-style, vibrant hand-drawn animation, and challenging boss-rush gameplay. Add to that appearances in other games and media like the Netflix series The Cuphead Show, and it’s safe to say that Cuphead ranks among gaming’s modern indie stars.

Soon players will have a new way to enjoy the game, as Studio MDHR has confirmed that the physical release will be out on December 6 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, priced at $39.99. The retail version will bundle both the base game and the recently-released Delicious Last Course expansion, so newcomers will have the full Cuphead experience right out of the box. On top of that, the standard release will include a few physical goodies in the form of an exclusive piece of art, six “Funnies” cards with comedic comic panels, and a special Cuphead Club membership card.
