Whether the base game or its DLC, Cuphead enjoys the attention of many. A challenging title, you'll feel good about beating it. With a whole plethora of bosses to encourage you to dive in, it comes with the inkling of trying to prove your skills.

A good way to do that is by going through all the bosses old and new to try and get the best rank possible. There's a grading system in place with plus and minus included, and the highest rating you can get on any of them is an S-Rank.
Whenever you complete a level or defeat a boss, you'll get taken to a results screen which covers several criteria: Time, HP, Parry, Super Meter, and Skill Level. The last one refers to the difficulty level, and S-Rank can only be achieved on Expert Difficulty. As for the others, on average you'll need a time of around two minutes, full HP, three successful parries, and six Super Meter cards filled and used.
Arguably the most challenging aspect of getting the highest rank is the time. Not only do you have to play a boss battle perfectly, but you have to do it quickly. As a result, consistent fire with a strong weapon will be key.
Two of the weapons that do the most damage are the Crackshot, which is effective at close range and still useful at long range, and the Spread Shot, which requires you to be close, It also gives you an Extra Special that covers the whole screen. The Roundabout is also a good choice having nice range, solid damage, and the ability to land shots even when facing away from bosses.
In terms of Charms, you'll of course want the Divine Relic, since it gives you access to multiple Charm effects and all weapons. However, if you don't have it, the Smoke Dash is an absolute must for moving
