Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has created a new record, this time outside of the football pitch! Ronaldo, also known as CR7, has become the first person on Instagram to reach 400 million followers. In September 2021, the 37-years old Portuguese striker became the most followed person on Instagram after reaching 237 million followers. In just about 5 months time, he has amassed almost 163 million followers creating history. The timing of the record was also interesting as Ronaldo reached the milestone a day after his 37th birthday which was on February 5.
The five-time Ballon d’Or award winner joined Instagram in October 2012. With his popularity spreading both on and off the football pitch, Ronaldo quickly gained a high number of followers on the platform. In September 2021, he created history by becoming the most followed personality on Instagram leaving behind Kylie Jenner and Dwayne Johnson. Keeping up with his popularity, Ronaldo now stands alone on the coveted landmark of 400 million followers.
Reaching the Instagram milestone, he has also picked up some noteworthy accolades along the way. In October 2021, his Instagram post about him and his partner Georgiana Rodriguez announcing them expecting twins became the second most liked post in Instagram history with more than 32 million likes. It is second only to the World record egg post which was created as a joke to see if people would make a picture of an egg the most liked post on Instagram.
