Friends star Courtney Cox has revealed why so many guest stars on the hit sitcom would get fired from the show. Over the course of 10 seasons and two-hundred and thirty-five episodes, Friends came to define a certain sitcom era with its twenty-something characters leading quirky Manhattan lifestyles. Competing with NBC’s other mega-hit sitcom, Seinfeld, Friends managed to achieve a type of longevity that the latter didn’t.
This isn’t to say that Seinfeld isn’t still adored by fans on a global level, but Friends remains slightly more accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds even today. It might seem as though this recipe for success came naturally to the series, given how tight the cast became and how endearing their characters were. But Friends had more than its share of ups and downs throughout its 10-year run, with everything from substance abuse issues to wage disputes threatening to ruin the program’s momentum. Thankfully for viewers, the series ended on a high note and looking back on it all today, it’s clear that much went into keeping Friends at a consistent level of quality.

Unfortunately, not everyone who was originally cast on Friends meshed with the overall dynamic of its principal cast. Apparently, Wednesday was the day where new recruits learned if they were going to be on an episode or not and while celebrity guest stars often had no problems making the cut, it was the unknown actors whose status was always at risk.
