Comics Anthology By Spain's Best Female Creators Gets English Translation
The Spanish anthology Voices That Count will be getting an English translation through IDW Publishing. This comic anthology features nine stories by women exploring the hardships they've faced as well as empowering moments. The 144-page collection includes stories ranging from a gender-flipped account of workplace inequality and the consequences of toxic beauty standards.
Female writers in comics have changed the industry with their presence and arguably have more visibility than ever before. Hashtags like Kelly Sue DeConnick's #VisibleWomen are an example of countless instances of how fellow female creators, as well as creators in general, have been striving to increase the audiences that women can reach on platforms such as Twitter. An anthology like Voices That Count is an example of an important piece of work that has the potential to reach international audiences, featuring not just stories by women but also stories detailing problems and victories experienced by them.

In an official announcement from IDW Publishing, a few pages, along with the cover by Esther Gili, were shared from the anthology with the translations done by Diego Jourdan Pereira. He is an Uruguayan-Chilean writer who translated two IDW titles to Spanish, Sonic: El destino del Dr. Eggman (Sonic: The Fate of Doctor Eggman), and Locke & Key: Bienvenidos a Lovecraft (Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft). Some of the stories from the anthology include: “Julio” by Julia Otero and Ada Diez, “24 Hours” by Lola Garcia and Agustina Guerrero, “The Bug” by Diana López Varela and Akira Pantsu, and “Empowered” by Estefanía Molina and Ana Oncina.
