CODA actor Troy Kotsur has reenacted famous movie scenes by signing the lines in American Sign Language in a new video. CODA is the hit AppleTV+ movie that tells the tale of Ruby, the titular CODA (Child of Deaf Adults). Ruby is the only hearing person in her family and when her parent's fishing business is threatened, Ruby must decide between following her passion to study music at college or staying with her parents to help them. CODA is helmed by Sian Heder, and, along with Kotsur, stars Emilia Jones as well as Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin.
As many now know, CODA was the surprise winner of Best Picture at this year's Oscars. Only in the last week of the Oscar race did the film suddenly overtake movies by seasoned Oscar pros like Jane Campion and Steven Spielberg for favorite to win the coveted award. Kotsur also went home with a gold statue for Best Supporting Actor, making him only the second deaf actor in history to win an Academy Award. The first was, of course, his co-star Matlin who won back in 1987. CODA truly defied all odds on Oscar night.
