There's a personality problem among 's aliens, but a few of them try to make up the deficit. As a matter of fact, much of the game suffers from a pervasive sense of blandness. 's cities are pret barren, its space exploration somewhat pointless, and its NPCs just a little bit dead around the eyes. These issues extend to its many alien species too, which, despite existing on thousands of far-flung planets each light years away from their closest neighbors, all fall into a couple of dull, archetypal categories.
But still, it's hard to make sweeping generalizations about such a broad game. Since its release, players have been doing their utmost to discover weird little details, contrast choices and experiences, and orchestrate surreal moments of comedy in 's engine. And with thousands of planets to visit, there are thousands of discoveries to be made. These discoveries aren't always game-changing, but they always open up new questions, and may inspire others who see them to get back out there and see what else they can find. One of those new discoveries injects some much-needed charm into 's otherwise bland alien species.
