Clayton Echard, the leading cast member of The Bachelor season 26, no longer regrets his choice of being this season's bachelor. In November 2021, Echard was announced at the new season's Bachelor, and Bachelor Nation was not happy with the choice that was made. He was chosen shortly after he departed from The Bachelorette season 18, when Michelle Young was the leading cast member. Not only did fans think Echard was not the best choice for The Bachelor because of his lack of screen time and quiet nature while on The Bachelorette, but many fans were hoping that Andrew Spencer, a contestant from The Bachelorette season 17, would be chosen as the leading cast member of The Bachelor. The producers' reason for choosing Echard was feeling a connection and wanting to give him a chance. The immediate dislike from Bachelor Nation became evident to Echard.
Echard received a great amount of backlash from Bachelor Nation, and many aspects about him were attacked, including his personality. It was shortly after the airing of The Bachelor season 26 premiere that Echard received an influx of negative comments, which was when he began to regret agreeing to be a leading cast member for the show. Echard admitted that he was not prepared for the reactions from fans, and it allowed his regret to last for the first three weeks of the show. The honing in on his judgment, decision-making and personality caused him to feel very overwhelmed, and the comments from fans of the show took a toll on Echard's mental health. Jesse Palmer, the host for The Bachelor season 26, also felt overwhelmed during this season due to Echard's uncommon style of navigating the show. But despite his feelings, Palmer supported Echard regardless of Echard's style.
