A new mod for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate adds Crono from Chrono Trigger to the game, bringing one of the most beloved JRPG heroes of all time into the fight. Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs of all time, being the brainchild of the creators of the Dragon Ball, Dragon Quest, and Final Fantasy series.
Chrono Trigger is so beloved that it was voted the best game of the Heisei era (1989-2019) in Japan. Despite the adoration for the game, the Chrono Trigger fans never held out much hope for the game being represented in the Super Smash Bros. series. For one thing, Square Enix rarely includes Chrono Trigger in crossovers, despite the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy franchises constantly being milked in crossover and mobile titles. The other is that there are more popular international Square Enix franchises that took up slots in Super Smash Bros., including Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Hero from the Dragon Quest series, and Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
