Daredevil’s Charlie Cox says that keeping his MCU return in Spider-Man: No Way Home a secret “was a nightmare.” Cox, who first played the blind-lawyer-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock in 2015, would go on to bring the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen to life across three highly acclaimed seasons of Daredevil, as well as in the Netflix crossover-event series The Defenders. Still widely regarded as one of Marvel’s best live-action television series, fans were dismayed when the series was canceled by Netflix in late-2018.
While the future of the Marvel property on Netflix was disrupted by Disney’s plans to launch their own streaming service, Disney+, numerous fan petitions to have the series return on Hulu or another Disney-affiliated network appeared within hours of Netflix’s announcement. According to some reports, however, Marvel Studios was unable to use the characters for at least two more years due to the original deal struck with the streaming giant. Late last year, however, fans rejoiced as both Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Cox’s Murdock both made their respective MCU returns in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
