Don Jon starred Gordon-Levitt as Jon Martello Jr., a prototypical New Jersey bartender dedicated to his family, friends and church and enjoys his casual sex life. However, as Jon begins developing unrealistic expectations and an addiction to hardcore pornography, he struggles to find a new path for his life and his desire for real intimacy and true love. Don Jon received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike upon its release for its charming humor, Gordon-Levitt's direction and Johansson and Moore's performances and was a modest box office success, grossing over $41 million against its $7.5 million budget.
