The official trailer for indie drama Cha Cha Real Smooth is out and promises uplifting dance moves with a side of heartwarming romance. Director/actor Cooper Raiff follows up his 2020 feature Shithouse, which garnered some acclaim despite being a micro-budget indie comedy. Cha Cha Real Smooth was a charming and tender Sundance hit, drawing genuine performances from leads Raiff, Dakota Johnson, and the debuting Vanessa Burghardt. Cha Cha Real Smooth looks to be a much more professionally produced effort than Shithouse, utilizing much of the industry and filmmaking knowledge that the director had to learn on the fly while in college.
The improved production value is evident in Apple TV's full trailer for Cha Cha Real Smooth, which showcases the heartfelt story at its core. Raiff plays Andrew, a down-on-his-luck adult fresh out of college who can't land a good job but is excellent at starting parties. He meets Johnson's Domino, a mother to an autistic young girl, and the three bond throughout the film. But when Domino's fiance enters the mix, Andrew's desires are thrown for a loop. The three-minute-long video makes Cha Cha Real Smooth look like a perfect addition to Apple TV+'s library of inspiring content like Swagger and Ted Lasso. Andrew's sincerity towards Domino and her daughter Lola is refreshing, and the film appears to navigate the issue of loving somebody that feels unattainable in an emotional and captivating way. Not only that, Andrew's journey of self-discovery is relatable. Cha Cha Real Smooth will aim to capitalize on these endearing qualities when it airs on Apple TV+ on June 17, 2022.
