The coolest costume ever worn by Captain Marvel has been completely forgotten by fans, not because it didn’t have an impact, but because it was used in a universe that the company has since all but abandoned. While the many costumes worn by Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers on Earth-616 have all been unarguably epic, they don’t even come close to comparing to the one shown in the Ultimate Universe, Earth-1610, for more reasons than one.
While many fans associate the superhero moniker ‘Captain Marvel’ with Carol Danvers due to her prominence in the MCU, the original Captain Marvel was a Kree hero named Mar-Vell who came to Earth and became a champion of its people. Mar-Vell was introduced in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 by Stan Lee and Gene Colan, where he didn’t show any signs of having superhuman abilities outside of the normal capabilities of the Kree race. Over time, however, Mar-Vell was granted cosmic powers from the entity Eon as well as through use of the Nega-Bands. While he started off as a Kree soldier, he became a photon-empowered cosmic superhero and his costume, while a fitting symbol of his heroism, was just an outfit — something that can’t be said of his Earth-1610 counterpart.
