Candymanis getting a 4K home release to celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary. The character was first introduced in Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden,” and in 1992, Candyman was released starring Tony Todd as Daniel Robitaille. The success of the film spawned two direct sequels, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh in 1995 and Candyman: Day of the Dead in 1999. A reboot/sequel titled Candyman was also released in 2021, which brought Todd back for a small cameo at the end of the movie.
Now, Candyman fans can pre-order the horror classic in 4K from Arrow Video. The release is packed with special features such as interviews with Todd, Barker, Virginia Madsen (Helen), and a documentary called “Urban Legend: Unwrapping Candyman.” The new 4K edition of Candyman also comes with commentary from Todd and director Bernard Rose, as well as three rare short films created by the latter.

In addition to the special features, fans also get a few physical items, including a poster, six postcard-sized UK lobby cards, and two limited edition booklets. While this is a UK release, 4K discs are region-free, meaning people in the US can still pick up this special edition of Candyman. This is currently priced at £30.00, which is around $40.25 in US currency and is set to be released on May 23, 2022. With the new Candymancoming out just last year, the tale of Daniel Robitaille is still fresh in horror fans’ minds. Candyman 2 has yet to be announced even though the 2021 film set up a sequel, but the announcement of a 4K release of the original is still exciting news.
