Call of Duty: Vanguard is the latest WW2 rendition of the franchise, and though it would've been unthinkable for it to do so at one point in time, the game took on the full brunt of Modern Warfare's Gunsmith feature. In effect, this means that any semblance of realism is thrown out the window, but also that balancing becomes far more difficult thanks to dozens of available attachments.
The option to kit out a regular MP-40 with a silencer, reflex sight, and a front grip might sound enticing on its own, but Call of Duty: Vanguard took the idea and ran with it, letting players choose up to 10 attachments simultaneously. While this does open things up for more experimentation than ever before, some players are now arguing in favor of a simpler, more limited system.

COD: Vanguard effectively doubled the number of available weapon attachments compared to Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War. This seemed like an appealing proposition at first, but as the calls to nerf the Whitley LMG in Vanguard have shown, such an open-ended customization system lets players build ridiculously overpowered weapons at times. As Reddit user Adananan explained, some members of the community actually feel that COD should go back to the earlier variant of the system instead.
Curiously, even some COD developers seem to agree with this notion, as some recent leaks suggest that Modern Warfare 2 may offer only 5 attachments at a time.
