Blizzard’s PC game servers are down, which means many players currently cannot play Battle.net games such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo and World of Warcraft.
The Hearthstone company first acknowledged the server issue at 00:45 am PT / 8:45 am BST, when it said it was investigating an issue affecting its authentication servers, which it claimed could result in failed or slow login attempts.
45 minutes later, it provided a further update and confirmed the downtime was due to an ongoing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which is a malicious attempt in which a perpetrator seeks to disrupt a network.
“We continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDOS attack which is affecting latency/connections to our games,” Blizzard wrote.
