Activision itself has said that Infinity Ward is helming this year’s Call Of Duty game, bolstering theories of a Modern Warfare sequel.
Given how Activision rotates between three main studios for its Call Of Duty games, it was pretty obvious that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward would be in charge of the 2022 game.
In its most recent financial report, Activision confirmed that to be precisely the case, adding that the same team is also leading development on the associated Call Of Duty: Warzone experience.
No other details were shared about the new game, with Activision only saying, ‘The team is working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting.’
However, there have been plenty of rumours which point to the 2022 game being a sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot, one centred around fighting Columbian drug cartels.
Activision has also admitted that overall Call Of Duty sales have declined as of late, directly referring to Call Of Duty: Vanguard’s low sales and a drop in Call Of Duty: Warzone engagement.
That said, Call Of Duty Mobile has only become more lucrative, with consumers spending at least $1 billion (almost £737 million) on the game in 2021.
Unsurprisingly, the financial results barely address the allegations of sexual harassment and workplace abuse, with the lawsuit filed by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing referred to as a ‘complaint’ and only mentioned as a factor that could affect future results.
