Destiny 2's latest hotfix, build version 6.2.0.8, released to minimal fanfare only for Bungie to then clarify that it most certainly wasn't used to release a new batch of secret content. Though it's been a while since the game's community last needed to work together to solve a mystery, some of Destiny's defining moments were driven specifically by secret releases and encounters.
Namely, Destiny 2 hasn't had a major new secret mission in years at this point, and the community is always ready to jump onto a new mystery. Whereas the majority of Destiny 2's hotfixes are largely unexceptional, reading into their respective patch notes can sometimes lead to suggestions of something interesting happening in the background, and hotfix 6.2.0.8 in particular seems to stand out in this respect.

For many Guardians, unlocking the Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2 was a highlight activity made all the more interesting by the fact that it launched as a big secret that got the community looking for answers in a frenzy. The fact that hotfix 6.2.0.8 specifically says that «there are no hidden quests or things being added,» is therefore more than enough to get dedicated community members to seek out answers. «If you want to go hunting, feel free,» says the changelog, which Community Manager dmg04 eventually responded to as well.
According to dmg04, the hotfix description is indeed true, with no major new additions being introduced into the game. «Truly just a test,» he said, adding that the only actual patch note would've been an updated version number for the game, which would've looked even more suspicious to the secret-minded community members.
