“Who shall claim their fading light?” reads the video’s description. “From a single spark, will the land ignite.
“A new shadow rises to fall upon the Dominants, painting their destinies black as night.
It adds: “It has been fifteen hundred years since the fall of our forebears, and Valisthea has been slowly dying ever since.
“Darkness spreads as day gives way to twilight, the Mothers’ flame now all but a flicker. And as the fringes fade, the people flock to the Mothercrystals.”
Fans were expecting the trailer to arrive at some point this month after the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida said it was on the way.
Yoshida also said that after the trailer would be released, Square Enix would hopefully be in a position shortly afterwards to give a more concrete release plan.
Speaking at the Japan Game Awards last month, Yoshida said he expected the trailer to arrive in October, adding: “I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to the marketing or public relations teams at all, so I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say.
“But I think we’ll probably be able to release the next trailer next month or so, and after that, I hope to be able to give a rough idea of when it will be released.”
The new trailer ends by simply saying the game is still planned for Summer 2023.
Final Fantasy 16’s last trailer was shown during Sony’s June State of Play stream. The trailer showed off the new combat system as well as the large-scale battles that will feature in the game.
