On Monday morning, Paramount's British television network Channel 5 News decided to air The Emoji Movie instead of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. They were the only British television network that decided to air alternative programming during the funeral.
The channel aired multiple kid's movies to provide viewing options for children, as The Emoji Movie was followed by Stuart Little, Ice Age: Dawn of Dinosaurs,and Sing. The programming choice was condemned, praised, and laughed at on social media, with the majority of users choosing the latter.

Twitter exploded with people expressing their shock and amusement, and some users refused to hold back their sarcasm. However, some users took the issue a little more seriously, arguing that Channel 5 should have found a different way to honor the Royal Family that children could relate to. On top of the fact that this channel decided to air a children's movie during one of the most significant historical events of the twenty-first century, airing The Emoji Movie was a particularly hilarious choice.
The 2017 film is widely considered to be one of the worst movies ever made, as it received an abhorrent six percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is so bad that actor and director Jordan Peele said he decided to quit acting solely based on receiving an offer to star in it. Ironically, the film was a box office hit with a stacked cast. The movie earned a solid $217 million and features esteemed actors and comedians like Patrick Stewart, TJ Miller, James Corden, and Maya Rudolph. However, it still earned Worst Picture of The Year at the 2018 Razzie Awards.
