Bridgerton revealed Lady Whistledown's return in the official season 2 trailer. Based on bestselling romance novels by Julia Quinn, Shonda Rhimes put her Midas touch on an adaption for Netflix. The global sensation took the streaming giant by storm in 2020, introducing audiences to the glossy high society drama surrounding the Bridgerton family in Regency-era London. Season 1 centered on the fiery love story between the family's eldest daughter Daphne, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and Duke Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page). From their whirlwind courting to engaging stories from a sparkling supporting cast, the series quickly became one of Netflix's most viewed ever. In the finale, the identity of society's salacious gossip columnist was unveiled as Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), leaving fans wanting more.
While it didn't surprise anyone that season 2 was quickly greenlit, many were saddened to learn the series would follow the books and focus on an entirely new romance for the second installment. Bridgerton season 2 notably welcomes newcomer Simone Ashley (Sex Education) as Kate Sharma, the main love interest of Daphne's brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). Luckily, most of the original cast is returning, including Coughlan, who will step into the spotlight as a more manipulative Lady Whistledown this time around. Narration for Whistledown will continue to be provided by Julie Andrews. Many fans were left wondering what the previously-anonymous writer's part would be in season 2.
