It’s been a surprisingly long time coming, given its archaic nature, but QUByte Interactive continues to push towards the rerelease of niche ’90s fighting game compendium Breakers Collection — in fact, the developer has announced a closed beta for this coming weekend, with sign-ups now live on Steam.
The closed beta — which runs from Friday, February 18 to Monday, February 21 — will solely feature online play, as the developer is no doubt keen to test the global connectivity of the rerelease’s servers. If you want an opportunity to get in on the action, then simply fill in your details over at the official sign-up page, and hopefully, you’ll be invited to square off against Sho, Condor, and Tia this weekend.
Breakers Collection, first announced back in 2019, will compile Neo Geo fighting games Breakers (1996) and its revamped edition Breakers Revenge (1998). While hardly the most well-known nor successful of fighting games, the Breakers titles have long had a dedicated community, which has seen something of a renaissance in the past five years. Hell, even yer boy Moyse has been in a Breakers tournament… Had to show out for my gurl Rila, after all. The new release features rollback netcode and multiple game modes.
Breakers Collection is currently in development for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It is expected to launch at some point later in 2022.
