An intrepid The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild player has discovered an unusual geological feature on the slopes of Death Mountain, where a stream of lava flows backwards. This type of unusual break with the laws of BOTW physics is not unheard of in Hyrule, where some glitches were deliberately left in the game due to their potential entertainment value.
Breath of the Wild is a huge game, filled with an overwhelming amount of detail. It is clear that the development team put much time and effort into making sure that this version of Hyrule feels like a real place, which has helped keep player discoveries, hints, and gameplay tips still relevant even years after its release. Of course, as with any game, there are some small bugs that fell through the gaps of quality control. A few of these bugs affect textures or some other aspect of the landscape, and have presumably been overlooked simply because of how large Hyrule is. In some cases, these sorts of bugs can be hugely beneficial to BOTW speedrunning, while at other times they simply look a little strange.

The glitch that Reddit user andBOTW player kinglucent recently came across clearly falls into the latter category. A backwards lava flow is very unlikely to have any greater bearing on gameplay, although the sight is certainly striking. At a certain point on Death Mountain, where the lava flows over an uneven portion of the mountainside, the divide that this causes in the fluid dynamics has had a strange effect on the upper portion of the lava stream. Along a clear dividing line, this half of the lava flow can be seen flowing backward up Death Mountain. Of course, kinglucent is likely far from the first person
