The Master Sword is the only weapon that does not fully break in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and fans can travel to the item's location early in their playthrough even though they need enough hearts to actually acquire it. All weapons have durability in the game before they break, causing players to acquire new tools to defend themselves. However, the Master Sword is coveted in Breath of the Wild for being the exception to this rule and, instead, recharges after it's broken. Players can wield this legendary sword in battle only after obtaining a total of 13 full heart containers.
The Master Sword is as iconic to The Legend of Zelda series as Zelda and Link. This weapon's origin was explained for the first time in Skyward Sword, which might tie into BOTW 2 even further. The Goddess Sword was forged into the Master Sword by the hero of the game. The Master Sword is the signature weapon of the Goddess Hylia's chosen hero and is used to seal Ganon, in most mainline Legend of Zelda games. BOTW kept this tradition by allowing fans to acquire this sacred weapon, but at a cost of hearts.
